<p>Knuckle-dragging guru&#8217;s from every corner of the bodybuilding planet most often chant in unison the &#8220;Lift heavy or go home!&#8221; mantra.</p>
<p>But is this really the best way to build more muscle mass?</p>
<p>Building muscle is a result of several different training elements including muscle contraction, anabolic hormones, amino acid availability, calories, recovery, and a factor called &#8220;time under tension&#8221;.</p>
<p>Time under tension basically refers to the amount of time during your working sets that your muscle is actually exerting force against the weight and according to one study, is greatly impacted by the amount of weight your lifting&#8230;and HOW you&#8217;re lifting it.</p>
<p>A group of untrained young men were divided into groups with one using LOW WEIGHTS (only 50% of their 1 Rep Max) but using a slow lifting tempo to increase the amount of time it took to raise and lower the weight.  All sets were performed to the point of muscular exhaustion.</p>
<p>Another group went &#8220;heavy&#8221; with 80% of their 1 Rep Max but used a faster repetition tempo to exhaustion.</p>
<p></span></p>
<div><span style="font-family: Tahoma; color: #000000; font-size: x-small;"><strong>The Results Of The Study?</strong><br />
</span></div>
<p><span style="font-family: Tahoma; color: #000000; font-size: x-small;"><br />
Both groups experienced significant muscle gains but the surprising revelation was that Group 1, using lighter weights with higher reps and slower tempo, had the greatest degree of impact from &#8220;time under tension&#8221; factor in the trained muscles.</p>
<p>This resulted in a higher degree of hormone-signaling factors (largely from build up of lactic acid) that triggered a greater release of growth hormone and insulinlike growth factor-1 (IGF-1).</p>
<p>Also, because there was a greater constriction of the trained muscles&#8217; blood vessels and &#8220;pump&#8221; from the increased time under tension, the body responded by increasing the production of nitric oxide in order to expand blood pathways and increase oxygen to the muscle.</p>
<p>But one of nitric oxide&#8217;s other roles is to generate satellite muscle cells, already primed for adding to your overall muscle mass through proper training.</p>
<p></span></p>
<div><span style="font-family: Tahoma; color: #000000; font-size: x-small;"><strong>How To Apply This To Your Training&#8230;</strong><br />

<p><span style="font-family: Tahoma; color: #000000; font-size: x-small;"><br />
Does this mean that you should abandon all other training methods and switch over to lower weights?</p>
<p>Absolutely not!</p>
<p>Any type of training performed the same way for too long only creates adaptation by the body and leads to frustrating &#8220;no growth&#8221; plateaus.  There&#8217;s incredible value in mixing up &#8220;heavy&#8221; training into your bodybuilding routine.  You may want to train one day with lighter weights and then a few days later with heavier weights to mix things up but one of the important factors from this study shows that when lifting lighter weights for mass-building, you should use a slower tempo, around a combined 5-7 seconds between concentric and eccentric movements.</p>
<p></span></p>
<div><span style="font-family: Tahoma; color: #000000; font-size: x-small;"><strong>But There&#8217;s An Even Better Way!</strong><br />
</span></div>
<p><span style="font-family: Tahoma; color: #000000; font-size: x-small;"><br />
I actually use what I humbly consider a much more effective variation of this technique in my &#8220;<em><strong>Advanced Mass Building</strong></em>&#8221; program (<a title="mass building" href="http://www.musclenerdfitness.com/go.php?offer=doggocks&amp;pid=7" target="_blank">www.AdvancedMassBuilding.com</a>).  My technique doesn&#8217;t just increase the &#8220;time under tension&#8221; factor&#8230;it sends it through the roof!</p>
<p>My method focuses on targeting two complimentary actions of a specific muscle group to work together in ramping up tension. For example, incline flyes followed by cable crossovers to target different areas of the chest.  Sets are performed back-to-back in rapid succession with no rest until the prescribed number of sets are reached. You may do even this for 10 sets or more, depending upon your own abilities.</p>
<p>The result is an extreme time under tenstion factor that triggers massive release of growth hormone and IGF-1 hormones as well as the biggest pumps of your life.  In turn, this naturally stimulates the production of nitric oxide and an increase in muscle satellite cells.</p>
<p>This method is then supported by follow up weekly cycles specifically building upon this mass-building momentum with the goal of targeting all seven muscle fiber variants and greatly enhanced muscle mass.</p>

<p>If you want to build muscle mass fast, should you train with lower weights and higher reps or heavier weights and lower reps?</p>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: tahoma;"><span style="font-family: Tahoma; color: #000000; font-size: x-small;">Knuckle-dragging guru&#8217;s from every corner of the bodybuilding planet most often chant in unison the &#8220;Lift heavy or go home!&#8221; mantra.</span></span></div>

<p>But is this really the best way to build more muscle mass?</p>
<p>Building muscle is a result of several different training elements including muscle contraction, anabolic hormones, amino acid availability, calories, recovery, and a factor called &#8220;time under tension&#8221;.</p>
<p>Time under tension basically refers to the amount of time during your working sets that your muscle is actually exerting force against the weight and according to one study, is greatly impacted by the amount of weight your lifting&#8230;and HOW you&#8217;re lifting it.</p>
<p>A group of untrained young men were divided into groups with one using LOW WEIGHTS (only 50% of their 1 Rep Max) but using a slow lifting tempo to increase the amount of time it took to raise and lower the weight.  All sets were performed to the point of muscular exhaustion.</p>
<p>Another group went &#8220;heavy&#8221; with 80% of their 1 Rep Max but used a faster repetition tempo to exhaustion.</p>
<div><strong>The Results Of The Study?</strong></div>
<p>Both groups experienced significant muscle gains but the surprising revelation was that Group 1, using lighter weights with higher reps and slower tempo, had the greatest degree of impact from &#8220;time under tension&#8221; factor in the trained muscles.</p>
<p>This resulted in a higher degree of hormone-signaling factors (largely from build up of lactic acid) that triggered a greater release of growth hormone and insulinlike growth factor-1 (IGF-1).</p>
<p>Also, because there was a greater constriction of the trained muscles&#8217; blood vessels and &#8220;pump&#8221; from the increased time under tension, the body responded by increasing the production of nitric oxide in order to expand blood pathways and increase oxygen to the muscle.</p>
<p>But one of nitric oxide&#8217;s other roles is to generate satellite muscle cells, already primed for adding to your overall muscle mass through proper training.</p>
<div><strong>How To Apply This To Your Training&#8230;</strong></div>
<p>Does this mean that you should abandon all other training methods and switch over to lower weights?</p>
<p>Absolutely not!</p>
<p>Any type of training performed the same way for too long only creates adaptation by the body and leads to frustrating &#8220;no growth&#8221; plateaus.  There&#8217;s incredible value in mixing up &#8220;heavy&#8221; training into your bodybuilding routine.  You may want to train one day with lighter weights and then a few days later with heavier weights to mix things up but one of the important factors from this study shows that when lifting lighter weights for mass-building, you should use a slower tempo, around a combined 5-7 seconds between concentric and eccentric movements.</p>
<div><strong>But There&#8217;s An Even Better Way!</strong></div>
<p>I actually use what I humbly consider a much more effective variation of this technique in my &#8220;<em><strong>Advanced Mass Building</strong></em>&#8221; program (<a title="amb" href="http://www.musclenerdfitness.com/go.php?offer=doggocks&amp;pid=7" target="_blank">www.AdvancedMassBuilding.com</a>).  My technique doesn&#8217;t just increase the &#8220;time under tension&#8221; factor&#8230;it sends it through the roof!</p>
<p>My method focuses on targeting two complimentary actions of a specific muscle group to work together in ramping up tension. For example, incline flyes followed by cable crossovers to target different areas of the chest.  Sets are performed back-to-back in rapid succession with no rest until the prescribed number of sets are reached. You may do even this for 10 sets or more, depending upon your own abilities.</p>
<p>The result is an extreme time under tenstion factor that triggers massive release of growth hormone and IGF-1 hormones as well as the biggest pumps of your life.  In turn, this naturally stimulates the production of nitric oxide and an increase in muscle satellite cells.</p>
<p>This method is then supported by follow up weekly cycles specifically building upon this mass-building momentum with the goal of targeting all seven muscle fiber variants and greatly enhanced muscle mass.</p>

<p>Follow the lead of world-class athletes and body builders to lose body fat while keeping all the muscle. Burning fat and building muscle is the healthy way to lose weight.</p>
<p>The trick is that muscle burns more calories than fat, even when you are resting. You can sleep away your unwanted fat. It works even better if you do some exercise.</p>
<p>Eating the right combination of foods can help with fat burning without muscle loss. You do not need those diet pills, supplements or shakes. You do not need any weird foods, or special ingredients.</p>
<p>You can eat more to lose more fat. In fact, if you starve yourself you will not lose weight permanently. You are doing your body damage and gaining fat. You need calories to lose weight.</p>
<p>Foods like chicken breast, turkey breast, very lean red meat and most types of fish are the best for your fat loss, muscle-building diet. Add a green vegetable to a serve of any of these low fat protein foods and you have a healthy meal.</p>
<p>Celery is known to be a dieter’s best friend but it can get boring.  If you are looking for something different, try Romaine lettuce, spinach, arugula, mustard greens, collard greens, Swiss chard, turnip greens, kale and celery, in different combinations.</p>
<p>A healthy eating plan with regular exercise will make you feel more energetic and happier. You would be surprised at the difference a week of healthy living can make to your life.</p>

<p>Your body is a very efficient machine. You should be proud. If we were living in prehistoric times, you would be a survivor. Your body has been designed to keep you alive and functioning in times of food shortage. In ancient times we had to hunt or gather our food, and then clean, prepare and cook it, before we could eat. Not a lot of food came cooked and ready made from the bag or can.</p>
<p>Our bodies, super efficient survival machines that they are, are designed to keep us fit enough to go out and hunt for our food after periods of little or no sustenance. Our bodies have storage areas all over to hold a cache of extra energy for when we need it.</p>
<p>Today we live in an environment of comfort and ease. Our food needs little in the way of preparation and most of it is efficient food. Efficient food is food that provides a lot of energy. A good example of efficient food is chocolate. It is easily converted to energy by our bodies. If the energy is not used immediately, it is stored by our efficient bodies for a time when we may need it for our survival.</p>
<p>In order to become slimmer we first need to change the way we think of our bodies. Instead of feeling your body is fat, tell yourself your body is super-efficient. Get over your mental hang-ups and stop punishing yourself for being a survival machine. Think of your body as super efficient. Understand that your body is doing a great job. It is doing exactly as it was designed.</p>
<p>You must realise your body doesn’t understand abundance. It is afraid you will run out of food. The best way to help your body feel safe is to keep feeding it. Instead of starving yourself, you should eat more often. This tells your body there is no shortage of food. The type of food you eat is important,   too.  Food that takes a lot of energy to chew, digest and convert is the type of food you need.</p>
<p>If you remember your body is a super efficient machine that still believes it is in prehistoric times you will do well. Foods like fresh fruit and vegetables, or very lightly steamed vegetables are excellent. They use energy to digest and convert them to energy. You are not storing as much energy by eating these foods.</p>
<p>Eating fresh, unprocessed foods will make you feel full, they will help clear your system of bad fats and cholesterol and they will help your body work even more efficiently. You will feel great and your body will use up the extra stored energy. You will be slimmer, healthier and proud of the super efficient machine that is your body.</p>
