Exercise is essential if you want to become healthier, happier and successful. Exercise keeps your body performing at its peak. Exercise helps to detoxify your system. It develops muscle tone to support your bones. It can help the prevention of osteoporosis in later years. Osteoporosis affects men and women although a greater number of women are affected. Your heart and lungs benefit immensely from regular daily exercise. Not only do you strengthen your muscles, you also get your blood pumping. This helps deliver oxygen to your brain and helps remove toxins from your bloodstream. Exercise also helps regulate your weight. This is beneficial to your body as it helps control blood pressure and blood sugars. High blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes are diseases that are prevalent in our society due to the excess consumption of food and the lack of exercise. They are mostly preventable and the best form of prevention is exercise. The good news about exercise is that you only need thirty minutes per day of exercise to make a difference. Thirty minutes of brisk walking, or jogging, running, swimming, or your favourite sport is all it takes to become fit and healthy. If you are very unfit, you should talk to your doctor about any exercise program. You do need to start exercising immediately but commonsense will tell you that you should ease into an exercise regime. Every day you exercise, you will get fitter. The fitter you are the better you will cope with day-to-day problems. You will think more clearly, be able to concentrate and you will be able to work more efficiently. You will become healthier, happier and more successful. Get started today. |

It is essential to eat right for health. Our bodies need vitamins, minerals and nutrients every day. Many vitamins essential to our health need to be consumed daily. Fast foods are low in vitamins and minerals and in some cases actually leach vitamins from your body. Fast food also contains lots of saturated fats and sugar. Making the change from fast food to healthy food is not hard. It only takes about a week for the taste of greasy fried food to become unpleasant. You will begin to crave the freshness of crisp salads and fresh fruit. Make the change to wholemeal and wholegrain products. The taste is quite amazing. Wholegrain products have a lot more flavour than the white, processed foods. Eat fresh fruit and vegetables daily. You should aim for a variety of types and colours. There is no excuse these days because most fruits and vegetables are available year round, although in season is still best. Fresh fruit is better than juice because it contains more fibre. If you drink juice, you may end up consuming more calories than you need. Try eating chicken and fish and only eat lean, red meat twice a week. If you are vegetarian, there are plenty of healthy choices in alternatives to meat. You may need to use a multivitamin supplement. Modern farming strips many foods of their full value in minerals. The time between harvesting, and when the food reaches your table, also determines whether the food has its full value in vitamins. In some areas, the land is deficient in certain minerals. A good quality multivitamin and mineral supplement will make up any deficit but don’t rely on supplements for your full daily requirements as fresh is still best. |

The latest fad in dieting is Detox Diets. You are supposed to go for weeks drinking detox drinks made from a couple of selected ingredients. These diets feel like they are doing you well and you certainly lose weight but they are very dangerous to your long-term health. Any time you cut a complete food group or groups from your diet, you are taking a risk. Your body requires some vitamins every day for optimum health. It also needs some trace elements and it certainly needs fibre, every day. When you cut out an entire food group, you need to make up any nutritional loss by substituting foods that contain the missing nutrients. Your body is very efficient and will go on for a long time, sometimes several months, before you begin to see the results of deprivation. You may even feel quite well for some time but the damage is happening and sometimes it is very difficult to recover. Even in the short term, damage from deprivation can be measured. Tests done on volunteers who have been on these detox diets show muscle mass is broken down to compensate for the lack of nutrition. The tests show the participants in the detox diets, while feeling quite well, were actually becoming less fit over the time spent on the diets. If you feel you need to detox, you should only follow a strict regime for a couple of days. Follow this with a healthy eating plan, including a large variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, and a sensible exercise program. You need to look at your eating plan as a lifetime choice, rather than as a temporary diet. Keep away from the fads and junk foods and your weight will stabilise at a healthy level for you, and you will be healthy. |
